Thanet Passport Update - 10

Dear Colleagues

I hope you are well and that the Grand Re-opening went well this week.

PASSPORT CALENDAR

Stephanie (our SGO) and I, in consultation with the Passport Committee, have put together a draft calendar of events that we hope can take place before the end of this academic year, given the current Government 'roadmap.' Although we are all acutely aware that things can change very quickly, that should not of course prevent us from trying to ensure that we have a plan in place so that as many of our children as possible at least get a few opportunities to represent their schools before the summer holidays.

We have taken the 17th May as our starting point for some smaller outdoor events, with larger outdoor events taking place after 21st June. The events are designed to be as inclusive as possible and cover all the age ranges. Sadly parents may well have to be excluded from some, if not all of the proposed events. Before then Steph and I will be issuing details for a virtual Multi-Sports Team competition covering some much neglected sports, such as hockey, which will run straight after Easter until 14th May.

I have attached the draft calendar, but at this point it really is a DRAFT and none of the dates are set in stone, especially as we are currently trying to arrange venues. Rather it gives an idea of how the proposed events might be spaced out and allows you to start running clubs or designing PE lessons as soon as possible for those events you would like to enter. However, there is a BIG HEALTH WARNING attached, especially as Government rules and restrictions could all change at relatively short notice and obtaining venues may be a problem. Let's hope not!

After Easter things should have settled down a bit and I should have more concrete dates, times and venues sorted by then. Consequently I will then ask you to let me know what events you are likely to want to enter so that a final decision can be made about viability.

A final reminder about the deadlines for the submission of results for the following virtual competitions:-

  • Speed Stacking - to me any time from now until 1st April 2021

VIRTUAL MULTI-SPORTS TEAM COMPETITION

After Easter until 14th May Stephanie will be running a virtual Multi-Sports Competition, which will centre around skills related to Handball, Hockey and Basketball. Further details to follow before the end of this term.

PE & SPORTS PREMIUM REMINDER

A reminder that all PE and Sports Premium money from 2019/20 needs to be spent by 31st March 2021. You will need to publish how this has been spent in a report on your school website. Please contact Stephanie, sgo@ursuline.kent.sch.uk , if you require any support around this.

GB SNOWSPORT RESOURCES

With one year to go until the opening of the Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing, GB Snowsport has launched their VI Skiing School Games Challenge Cards, a free resource which can be found at https://gbsnowsport.com/new-school-games-resources-help-mark-one-year-to-go-to-start-of-paralympic-winter-games/. This is a new sport that you can introduce into the school environment and it is socially distanced! It offers both Personal Best challenges as well as an intra-school competition if you need new and additional activities to undertake over the next few weeks.

STREETZONE FOOTBALL

Several Thanet schools have used Yofi's Yo!Streetzone coaching organisation and he has even given impressive demonstrations at some of our football festivals. Based in Margate, Yofi specialises in teaching football skills, ball control, freestyle and panna football in a fun and engaging way to boys and girls alike. His flyer is attached if you are interested in having him in your school.
