Thanet Passport Update - 14

Dear Colleagues

Thankfully we seem to be edging back towards normality, not least when it comes to inter-school sports events. Thank you to those schools that have returned their Post-Lockdown questionnaires. Your responses have been very useful and illuminating. As a result we will be providing Covid-19 Risk Assessments and ensuring that all NGB guidance is followed for each event. In addition, everyone has agreed that parents should not be attending any events until next September at the earliest. Hopefully this will mean that many of you will feel confident about entering all of our planned events in Term 6, the first 5 of which are detailed below.

Y3/4, Y5/6 and GIRLS KWIK CRICKET TOURNAMENTS

As in previous years, the Year 3/4 tournament will be held on the same day as the Year 5/6 Girls’ tournament, with the Mixed Year 5/6 event a week later. This is designed to make it a lot less exhausting for the Year 5/6 girls who are usually involved in both competitions. Places are limited to 8 teams for the Y3/4 event and 16 teams for the Y5/6 events. An entry form and a copy of the rules are attached.

  • The Year 3/4 cricket tournament will take place at Margate Cricket Club on Friday 11th June, 9.15am-12noon.
  • The Year 5/6 Girls’ tournament will take place at Margate Cricket Club on Friday 11th June, 1.00pm – 6.00pm.
  • The Year 5/6 Mixed tournament will take place at Margate Cricket Club on Friday 18th June, 1.00pm – 6.00pm. At least 2 boys/girls playing at any one time.

PLEASE NOTE that as numbers are restricted for these events, entries will NOT be accepted until 7.30am on THURSDAY 13th MAY, AFTER which time places will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis. Entries should be sent to me, garybcrees@gmail.com , with the closing date for entries being midnight on Monday 24th May.

Y1/2 RAPID FIRE COMPETITION

The Rapid Fire Cricket competition will be held at St George's Primary School on Wednesday 16th June, 1.15-2.45pm. A maximum of 6 schools can enter and an entry form and a copy of the rules are attached.

As above, entries will NOT be accepted until 7.30am on THURSDAY 13th MAY, AFTER which time places will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis. Entries should be sent to me, garybcrees@gmail.com , with the closing date for entries being midnight on Monday 24th May.

Y3/4 TRI-GOLF TOURNAMENT

This year's event will be held outdoors at Margate FC on Thursday 17th June, 12.45-2.45pm. A maximum of 8 schools can enter this event and an entry form is attached.

As above, entries will NOT be accepted until 7.30am on THURSDAY 13th MAY, AFTER which time places will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis. Entries should be sent to our SGO, Stephanie Selsby (NOT ME!), sgo@ursuline.kent.sch.uk, with the closing date for entries being midnight on Monday 24th May.

DISTRICT FOOTBALL TRIALS

Despite Covid, our District football teams have managed to play some fixtures this year. Our main squad finished second in their league and are now at home to Brighton in the play-offs next Saturday. Last year's team were also able to play their cup final against Dartford last Saturday and despite lack of training time together they acquitted themselves well in a 2-0 defeat. The TPSFA will be running both a main team and a girls side again next season and whilst I realise that you may not be fully aware of who your outstanding footballers are in Year 5, I thought I would give you a heads up now, as we will be asking you to nominate players to attend trials, which will take place towards the end of June. Further details to follow.

OLYMPIA BOXING

Also attached is another flyer from Olympia Boxing with a further offer to schools which may be of interest.

WATERLOO CUP

Unfortunately Dave Walker at Upton has informed me that the Waterloo Cup Cross Country Relay, that was pencilled in for Saturday 26th June, will not now be able to take place. However, Dave is hopeful that the Cross Country event at Upton on Saturday 3rd July will go ahead. We will let you know nearer the time - so watch this space!

AND FINALLY...

James Hood at Holy Trinity and St John's has contacted Stephanie regarding an article in the Isle of Thanet News about the LTA primary initiative that they have been working on in partnership with Infinity tennis. He says that it’s been a great project and he has thanked us for signposting him to the teachers' course. That's really good to know James. The link to the news article is below.
