Thanet Passport Update - 16

Dear Colleagues

As restrictions are starting to ease there are lots of sporting opportunities on offer for you and your pupils between now and the end of term. I hope to see many of you at one or more of the events below. Please note that they are all outdoors and have been Covid-19 Risk Assessed using NGB guidance.

YEAR 2 QUAD KIDS ATHLETICS

This fun event will take place at Dane Court on Wednesday 30th June, 12.45-3pm. There is no limit on numbers, you can bring a group, a class or even the whole of Year 2 if you wish!

The 4 events are 50m sprint, 300m run, mini vortex howler throw and standing long jump, which will be completed by everyone in rotation. Each event will be explained to the children, but pages 5-8 of the attached Quadkids Manual may help you to prepare them in advance. As usual we are not recording individual performances (hence no numbers needed). Although every child takes part, only the best 4 boys’ and best 4 girls’ performances from each school in each event will count. Every child will receive a participation medal. There are 2 trophies which will go to the schools with the best overall boys’ and girls’ performances from all 4 events added together.

If you wish to enter please email me, garybcrees@gmail.com , with the following information by Friday 18th June: Please note that parents are not allowed to attend.

'LET'S TALK' PROGRAMME

Finally, I have been contacted by Colin Rouse, who some of you may remember from his time at Thanet District Council. He now works for Changing Minds Kent and has asked me to pass on the following information which may be of interest to you and your school. Please pass it on to the relevant members of staff who deal with CPD.

Good afternoon

Hope you are keeping safe and well. My name is Colin Rouse from Changing Minds Kent CIC and I’m reaching out to discuss a brand new and innovative ‘Education Wellbeing Programme to help support both staff & students across the academic year’.

I have lived and worked in Kent my entire life, and along with my amazing team are passionate about helping individuals and organisations embed positive wellbeing for themselves and for their organisations. We know how important the education sector is and the role that staff play in providing the best possible education for our young people. We are also aware that work pressures, outside pressures and added to this a global pandemic has seen mental health conditions increase drastically over the last 12-16 months! With many of us now planning for the year ahead, we are excited to share with you our brand-new programme, delivered by local experts in the field of health and wellbeing. We want to make life as simple and possible for you, which is why we have developed an academic wellbeing programme to work across your academic year.

Across 12 months we will:

  • Deliver a range of Mental Health First Aid Training & energetic CPD Workshops.
  • Deliver practical and engaging Student & Staff Wellbeing events delivered every term.
  • Measure staff/student wellbeing through regular baseline measurement tools
  • Support staff with self-care & coping strategies to reduce staff stress & burnout.
  • Provide the tools, experience, and awareness to help your school stand out to OFSTED.

Our mission is to provide a flexible, engaging, and transformational wellbeing support programme to help reduce staff burnout, change behaviours through accredited training and self-care strategies and help empower young people with increased awareness and education around positive wellbeing.

Who are we?

Changing Minds Kent CIC is local not for profit organisation based in Thanet who work with local, regional, and national partners to deliver community-based projects as well as training & 1-2-1 support through our Employee Wellbeing Programme (EWP). We have over 20 years’ experience across multiple sectors including Mental Health, Sports Development, Education, Community, Life Coaching, and social care

Our goal is to work with the education sector to make life easier and more manageable for teaching professionals and to help develop a healthy and happier workplace/student culture.

I have attached some more information about the programme, but I would welcome the opportunity to connect and share this vision with you to ensure we can support your organisation with your wellbeing goals. I appreciate how busy you and your teams are but would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with your SLT or wellbeing leads.
