Thanet Passport Update - 18

Dear Colleagues

Welcome to the final Passport Update of the year. It has certainly been a year to remember, or maybe even to forget! Let's hope for a return to normality and lots of inter-school sport in 2021/22.

PASSPORT CALENDAR (DRAFT)

As a first step towards normality, as promised, please find attached the draft pdf Passport Calendar for the next academic year. Stephanie and I, along with the Passport Committee, have been working hard to put the calendar together, which includes all the old favourites as well as some new events. The main difference that you may notice is that the Kent School Games qualifiers have now gone. There will still be lots of competitive tournaments, but the SGO role is changing in all Districts to one of encouraging and increasing participation, as elite sports people often have access to further competition through outside clubs.

Please remember that the attached calendar is still a DRAFT version. Whilst most of the venues and organisers have confirmed their participation, there are still a few events that need to be finalised before the final spreadsheet version is sent out at the start of next term. Hard, laminated A3 copies will also be delivered to all schools as usual in September. Nevertheless, we hope that getting the calendar now will enable you to plan your clubs, school trips and sports days accordingly.

HOLIDAY ACTIVITY & FOOD PROGRAMME (HAF)

Thanet District Council’s Active Thanet Service is working with a host of local and national organisations to deliver holiday programmes across the District, particularly for vulnerable families. The link below will take you to a landing page on the TDC website which lists the various locations that the HAF programme will be running in Thanet.

It is highly likely that your school will already have been contacted by one of Thanet’s partners. Each location will have a target cluster of schools and limited spaces available. Feedback from activity leaders so far is that information may not be getting through to the correct contacts as they have had little communication from a number of schools. So please can you check and share the link with your FLO/SENCO/SLT, particularly as the deadline for signing up is fast approaching.

You and/or any member of staff will be able to refer a family eligible for a FREE place, or parent/guardians can make a self-referral (providing the information about the programme has reached them).

Similarly, also attached is a flyer from Baypoint, who are running weekly Summer Camps from Monday to Thursday, starting on 26th July. These cost £20 per person per week, but are free to children who are eligible for free school meals.

10th ANNIVERSARY 'PASSPORT PARTY'

I don't know where the time has gone, but this year is our 10th Anniversary since Thanet Passport first started. We had planned to have a big celebratory event, similar to the one we held for our 7th Anniversary, but obviously the pandemic put paid to that. However, we still intend to hold a Passport Party for all schools in the summer of 2022! Always good to finish on a positive note! Enjoy your well deserved summer break.

Best Wishes
