Y3/4 FOOTBALL FESTIVAL

TPSFA REMINDER ABOUT AGM

Don't forget that the Annual General Meeting of the Thanet Primary Schools FA will be held at Holy Trinity Ramsgate Primary School on Friday 3rd May at 4.00pm. The meeting will last no longer than an hour and is your opportunity to have a say in how our various football events are run, as well as the District Teams, so please make every effort to attend.

DISTRICT FOOTBALL TRIALS

Staying on the theme of football, we will soon be asking all Primary and Junior schools to nominate players for next year's Year 6 (currently Year 5) boys and girls District Teams, as well as for our Development Squad (those currently in Year 4). Remember that only players of exceptional ability should be put forward, but please get your thinking caps on now.

Y3/4 and Y5/6 MINI TENNIS

Attached are entry forms and guidance for both the Y3/4 and Y5/6 Mini Tennis tournaments which will take place at Margate Tennis Club on Friday 10th and Friday 17th May respectively. A maximum of 8 teams may enter each competition and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Entry forms should be sent NO EARLIER than 7.30am on Thursday 25th April 2019 to the SGO, Stephanie Selsby, sgo@ursuline.kent.sch.uk . Entries close at midday on Monday 29th April.

NETBALL TOURNAMENT CONFIRMATION

Now that the closing date has gone, Linda Bushell has asked me to confirm the schools/teams that will be taking part in the Netball Tournament at Hartsdown Secondary School on Saturday 11th May. It involves a record 30 teams and fixtures and umpires are now being arranged, so if anything is incorrect please let Linda know immediately, as any last minute withdrawals will cause a huge amount of extra work for the organisers! The confirmed schools/teams are:- Northdown x 1; Christchurch x 1; St Joseph's x 1; Monkton x 2; St Peters x 3; Minster x 1; St Nicholas x 1; Ramsgate Holy Trinity x 3; St Gregory's x 1; Chilton x 2; Garlinge x 3; St Saviours x 2; Birchington x 2; St Lawrence College x 2; Haddon Dene x 1; Palm Bay x 2; Upton x 2

Y1-6 CROSS COUNTRY EVENTS

I have received the following from Dave Walker at Upton, who has asked me to pass it on to all schools. I'd like to invite you all to two annual cross-country related events we run here at Upton every year: Firstly the Waterloo Team Relay on Saturday 15th June:

Originally invented at the request of the mayor, this event commemorates the Battle of Waterloo. A team of three runners (same sex) each run 800m around the course before passing their baton to the next runner. There are 4 races:

  • Year 3/4 Boys (10.00AM)
  • Year 3/4 Girls (10.30AM)
  • Year 5/6 Boys (11.00AM)
  • Year 5/6 Girls (11.30AM)

Schools can, and often do, enter multiple teams. There is a £2 entry fee per child and that pays for a nice medal for each child, regardless of where their team finishes. The relay nature of the event makes it unique, with runners being part of a team rather than simply competing as individuals. This also means that it's a much more open competition with many differing schools making the podium or top ten.

Secondly the Upton Cross-Country 2019 on Saturday 22nd June

Last year we had over 500 runners taking part. It's a similar event to the Quex ones except that all races are 1km - I find the extra 500m often puts the older ones off. There are still 8 main races (y3 boys, yr 3 girls, yr 4 boys etc) and we have a 'fun' Y2 and under race at the start which is very popular also. Entry is only £2 per child and again this pays for their medal

With the summer terms always being so so busy, would you mind sending me expressions of interest immediately in either or both and I'll then send you over further details and some letter templates you can use to start getting organised in good time.

Please reply to Dave.Walker@uptonjunior.com.

SWIMSAFE

Swim England and the RNLI are offering FREE outdoor swimming and water safety sessions to schools with children aged 7-14. The sessions will take place on Margate Main Sands on 11th, 13th, 18th and 20th June. Further details and booking forms can be found using the following link:- https://swimsafe.org.uk/locations/margate?date=&spaces=&type=school#results

CONGRATULATIONS

Well done to Holy Trinity Ramsgate, who won the Y3/4 Mini Squash and will now go on to represent Thanet at the KSG finals, and equally well done to Garlinge, who won the Y5/6 Mini Squash.

Also, apologies to both the schools above as I wrongly credited Garlinge with winning the Tri-Golf tournament last term, when in fact it was Holy Trinity Ramsgate who triumphed.

Finally, congratulations to our District Football Team, who have won through to the Kent Cup Final, which will take place at Maidstone United's ground on May 4th - so 'May the Fourth Be With You' boys!

Best Wishes
