The Thanet Primary Association for School Sport, or 'Thanet Passport' as it is more popularly known, is neither a charity nor a business, but is run by schools for schools. It helps organise and supports all primary school sports festivals and competitions across the District. Our aim is to get as many Thanet children participating in sport as possible, regardless of ability, thereby promoting a lifelong interest and commitment to sport and a healthy lifestyle. Fair Play and Team Work are encouraged at all times, as well as the development of skills. However, sport by its nature is competitive and the winners of many of our events go on to represent Thanet at County Finals with great success.
Since its formation in 2011, Thanet Passport has continued to grow and now has annual participation figures of more than 10,000. Over 4000 pupils a year, that's a third of children attending primary school in the Thanet District, have taken part in at least one of the 70+ Passport events and festivals. Our work has been recognised, both locally and nationally, and we were proud to win the 'Unsung Hero' accolade at the 2014 Thanet Sports Awards, as well as being Highly Commended in 2016. In 2019 we were one of the winners of the Thanet Community Awards.
With access to over 10,000 families, a Partnership with Thanet Passport is of great mutual benefit. Click here to find out more.
We organise all Primary School inter-school sports festivals and competitions. We currently have over 20 different sports on offer, including archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, bowls, climbing, cricket, cross country, dance, dodgeball, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby league, rugby union, speed stacking, squash, swimming, table tennis and tennis. Our 80+ festivals and tournaments provide over 10,000 sporting opportunities and new sports are being introduced all the time.
We have developed strong links with local sports clubs, such as Thanet Athletics Club, Thanet Wanderers Rugby Club, Margate and Broadstairs Cricket Clubs, Margate FC, Ramsgate FC, Margate Tennis Club, Thanet Squash Racquets Club, Thanet Swim Club and the Thanet Netball League. As well as helping to organise all the festivals and tournaments, Thanet Passport sources trophies and medals, certificates, first aid cover, coaching and venues. We also provide professional development opportunities for school PE staff.
