Sorry to be sending out a second Update so soon after the last one, but there are several events coming up soon and I wanted to give you plenty of time to sign up and get details out to parents.
A final reminder about our Passport Relaunch event at Thanet Wanderers Clubhouse in St Peter's this coming Wednesday 14th September, 6.30-8.30pm. Many of our Partners will be represented at the meeting with the opportunity to find out how your school can benefit from what they have to offer. Our SGO, Stephanie Selsby, will be outlining her revised role in helping schools increase pupil participation in sport, with useful hints on how to make best use of your Sports Premium. In addition there will be FREE resources for all schools that send a delegate - and the bar will be open! If you have not already let me know that you will be coming then please do so, so that we can make sure everyone has a chair!
This is a new event this year for our Infants in Years 1 and 2, which will take place at Ramsgate Leisure Centre on Thursday 6th October, 3.45-5.30pm. Due to limited space the venue can only host 8 schools and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Please send your entries to Steve Holmes (NOT ME!) at Priory Infant School. sholmes@priory.kent.sch.uk , no earlier than 7.30am on Wednesday 14th September 2022. Entries close at midnight on Friday 23rd September 2022.
At the event the children will participate in 3 different games (Dodgeball, Handball and Skittles) which will be ideal preparation for other events later in the year. Further details and rules of the three games will be outlined upon successful entry. Teams must be of mixed gender in squads of up to 10 children, with 8 permitted to play in a game at any one time. The event will focus on the key Sports Values of Honesty, Teamwork, Respect, Self-Belief, Passion and Determination.
This event is the first of several 'taster' sessions we are running this year in order to familiarise staff and players with the rules and format of various sports well before the tournaments take place, thereby increasing enthusiasm, skill levels and numbers of participants. The Basketball taster will take place at The Ursuline on Friday 7th October, 4-5.30pm. Should the event be over-subscribed then we will seek to hold a parallel event at another venue, yet to be decided. If you wish to take part then please email me, garybcrees@gmail.com . I am pleased to say that once again East Kent Coaching will be running the Cross Country events at Quex Park, as advertised on the Passport calendar, with the first being on Saturday 8th October 2022. The format will be the same as in previous years, with separate races for boys and girls in each year group from Y3 to Y6. Every finisher will receive a medal, with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for the top 3 in each race.
The cost per runner is £3.50. However, the organiser, Steve King, has kindly said that no runners will be excluded due to financial hardship in these straightened times. The administration arrangements will be the same as the last time this event was held, so there will be no need for pinned-on numbers or a spreadsheet. Attached is all the information you need, including a pro-forma letter for parents to which you can add your own deadline. PLEASE READ IT ALL CAREFULLY!
Entry forms should be sent to me, garybcrees@gmail.com, no later than Friday 30th September, with payment either by cheque or BACS to arrive by Monday 3rd October 2022.
Please note that schools that fail to meet these deadlines will not be able to take part.
Attached are all the details you need for this event which will take place at Margate FC on Wednesday 12th October 2022, 4-5.30pm. The event will be supported by students from Broadstairs College who will run a warm-up session and be available to officiate. Entries should be sent to me, garybcrees@gmail.com , with a closing date of Friday 30th September 2022.
Please see the attached flyer from Table Tennis England regarding an 8 week programme of coaching for children aged 7-11. The TTKIDZ programme will be run by licenced coaches from Thanet Vikings Table Tennis Club at a cost of £20 per child, which includes a kit bag containing a bat, balls, t-shirt and activity book. The programme commences on Monday 3rd October 2022, 5-6pm at St Anthony's School in Margate. There are 20 places available which have to be booked through Table Tennis England. Please pass this information on to any of your children that might be interested.
