Thanet Passport Update - 6

Dear Colleagues

This is the final Update of the term - so Merry Christmas to all our readers!

PE STAFF NETWORKING MEETING

As I trust you have noticed from your Passport Calendars, the next Networking Meeting for PE staff is due to take place on Friday 9th December, 1-4pm, and I am delighted to say that it will be held at Wellesley House Haddon Dene. Many thanks to Gail Crompton for arranging this. As always this is an ideal opportunity for PE staff to feel supported and keep up to date with the latest developments. Stephanie, our SGO, will be doing her usual briefing and we will finish with a brief tour of the facilities at Wellesley, followed by a practical coaching session in the gymnasium for all attendees on the delights of Rapid Fire Cricket, an introduction to the game for KS1 and early KS2 children. As if that was not enough, refreshments will be provided - maybe even a mince pie or two!
Please confirm your attendance by emailing me, garybcrees@gmail.com , as soon as possible and no later than Wednesday 7th December 2022. There is no limit on numbers from any school and don't forget that cover for your attendance counts as eligible expenditure from your School Sports Premium.

CHANCE TO SHINE CRICKET TERM 3

The following offer from Molly Davies, the Kent Community Coach at Kent Cricket Club, may be of interest to you. If you are interested then please contact her directly.

Chance to Shine is a national charity that aims to give all children the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket. As well as the physical benefits of regular activity, we use cricket to teach children important key life skills that will help them beyond the playground. Due to the support we receive from Chance to Shine, this programme is free of charge. I have availability to deliver what we refer to as the ‘Whole School Programme’ – this would enable me to work with 4 classes, for six weeks as well as provide wider support to the school. The programme is broken down into these areas:

Inspire - This includes an inspirational assembly, focussing on ‘Respect’ and the Spirit of Cricket, as well as time for me to plan and tailor the programme with you
Play - The sessions ensure that children are achieving the skills they need, as set out in the national curriculum, like throwing, catching and ball-striking
Lead – to work with either/or: Staff, on a 1-to-1 basis, or at a staff meeting/twilight to provide them with informal training, or with Year 6 pupils as ‘Playground Leaders’
Pathway – This time is to help children connect with out-of-school opportunities or, to look at what extra-curricular options I can support the school to develop

Any questions please do get in touch.

Best Wishes,
Molly Davis

PRE-ENTRY PROTOCOL

Sadly we have had a number of schools entering events this year and then withdrawing, sometimes with very little notice. This causes a number of problems, especially if fixtures have already been sent out and medals ordered. Obviously last minute illness amongst staff or children cannot be foreseen, especially these days, although even then it doesn't hurt to think about a back-up plan if this were to happen. In order to help schools with this issue, Thanet  Passport drew up a Pre-Entry Protocol document a number of years ago. This consists of a checklist of questions to go through before signing up for one of our events. I have attached a copy for your convenience, which can also be found under the Documents section on our website, www.thanetpassport.org.uk .

Best Wishes
