Thanet Passport Update - 9

Dear Colleagues
Although this is the final Update of Term 3, there are lots of events detailed below for you to sign up for in Term 4, including some changes from the Passport Calendar. So please read the entry details carefully and get your entries in on time!

NETWORKING MEETING FOR PE STAFF

Please note that we have had to bring the date of this meeting forward by a day due to the venue being booked out for a funeral. The next Networking Meeting will now be held on Thursday 23rd February, 1.00-4.00pm, in the Thanet Wanderers Clubhouse at St Peter's Rec. As always, this is a great opportunity for PE staff to meet other like-minded people, share ideas and keep up to date with new initiatives and events. Cover for your attendance also counts as eligible expenditure from your school's PE and Sport Premium. At this meeting I will be providing information on forthcoming events and opportunities; Stephanie Selsby, our School Games Organiser, will be helping us to share ideas about how to develop your PE schemes of work; and there will also be a practical session on rugby. As if all that was not enough, tea, coffee and buns will be provided! If you are able to join us please let me know by emailing garybcrees@gmail.com. There is no restriction on numbers from any school.

Y3/4 and Y5/6 QUICKSTICKS HOCKEY

I am delighted to say that although the astroturf pitches at Chatham House are now unusable, thanks to Cliftonville Hockey Club it seems likely that the 2 Quicksticks Hockey tournaments will now take place at St Lawrence College. I am still waiting to hear if the dates on our calendar are viable, although 2nd March is a proposed teacher strike day so I have asked if it could be brought forward a day to 1st March. As soon as dates are confirmed I will send out the entry forms separately.

Y5/6 RUGBY

Attached is the sign up sheet and all the information you need for this year's Rugby events, as well as a copy of the rules. Please note that this year the '6 Nations' and the Main Festival will take place at Thanet Wanderers. The entry form should be returned to me, garybcrees@gmail.com , as soon as possible and no later than Friday 10th February 2023. Parent and family spectators are very welcome at this event.

Y5/6 NETBALL FESTIVAL

Due to new site restrictions that are now in force at Dane Court, the Y5/6 Netball Festival will now take place at St George's Secondary School on the same date, Tuesday 7th March, 4-5.30pm. There is a limit of 12 teams for this event and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Attached are all the details you need and the entry form, which should be returned to Stephanie Selsby, sgo@ursuline.kent.sch.uk (NOT ME!), no earlier than 7.30am on Thursday 2nd February. Closing date for entries is midnight on 15th February. Parent spectators are welcome at this event.

Please note that because Dane Court is unavailable and the 15th March is a proposed teachers strike day, the Hi-5 Netball Tournament has been cancelled. However, I am pleased to say that it looks as though the large annual Netball Tournament that used to be run by the Thanet Netball League is likely to be reinstated, possibly in May, and as soon as I have firm details you will be the first to know!

Y1/2 COOLA-TO-HOOLA

Also attached are the details and entry form for the Y1/2 Coola-to-Hoola festival which will be held at St George's Primary School on Thursday 9th March 2023, 3.45-4.45pm. There is a limit of 6 teams for this event and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Entries should be sent to Lesley Wright (NOT ME!), Lesleywright@st-georgescofe-thanet.kent.sch.uk , no earlier than 7.30am on Thursday 2nd February. Closing date for entries is midnight on Thursday 23rd February. Parent spectators are not permitted at this event.

Y3/4 TRI-GOLF

This event will take place on Tuesday 14th March, 1.00-3.30pm, and further details and entry form are attached. There is a limit of 10 teams for this event and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The entry form should be returned to Stephanie Selsby, sgo@ursuline.kent.sch.uk (NOT ME!), no earlier than 7.30am on Thursday 2nd February. Closing date for entries is midday on 1st March. Parent spectators are not permitted at this event.

DANCE INTEREST

Sadly last year we had to cancel our Dance competition due to a lack of entries and consequently the event was omitted from this year's calendar. We are still keen to run this event in the future, possibly even this year, but before we do so we need to gauge the level of interest. If your school currently runs a Dance Club and would be interested in entering an inter-school competition then please let Passport Committee member, Jade Bailey, know by emailing BaileyJ@garlinge.kent.sch.uk . Please include the likely numbers and ages of those involved.

PASSPORT AFFILIATION FEES

Please be aware that the invoices for affiliation to Thanet Passport for this academic year are being sent out by The Ursuline this week, so please alert your Finance staff to look out for them and ensure that they are processed as soon as possible. The fees for this year are £750 for through Primaries, Junior schools and Private schools and £250 for Infant and small schools. As I'm sure you are aware, membership of Thanet Passport is incredibly good value for money and counts as eligible expenditure from your PE and Sport Premium.

AND FINALLY...

Please remember that where there is a gender restriction for a competition (eg minimum number of boys or girls), this is put in place to promote equality of access to that particular sport and should be encouraged at all times, even if that means fielding a slightly weaker team. Any school that, despite their best efforts, is unable to meet the gender criteria will still be welcome to take part in a competition but, in fairness to the other schools taking part, will not be able to win the event.

Best Wishes
