Thanet Passport Update - 10

Dear Colleagues

Welcome back after your well-deserved half term break.

PE NETWORKING MEETING

Thank you to those who have let me know that you will be attending our next Networking Meeting at Thanet Wanderers clubhouse this coming Thursday 23rd February, 1-4pm. If you are intending to join us please let me know so that I know how many biscuits to provide! As always there will be lots of useful information to share, including a look at the PE curriculum and schemes of work, and don't forget that cover for you to attend counts as eligible expenditure from your Sports Premium.

HOCKEY TOURNAMENTS

As reported in my last Update, we were hoping to hold the Y3/4 and Y5/6 Hockey Tournaments at St Lawrence College, now that the Chatham House astroturf is out of action. Cliftonville Hockey Club had offered to organise this for us, but unfortunately I have not yet received any confirmation from them and as the dates are imminent I have reluctantly taken the decision to postpone both events. I am still hopeful that they will still go ahead in the near future and as soon as I have some concrete dates and details I will let you know in good time so that we all have enough time to collate entries, get letters out and organise transport etc. Many apologies for this, as I know that lots of you have been practising hard.

NETBALL TOURNAMENT

On a happier note, I am pleased to report that I have had confirmation from the Thanet Netball League that their Primary Schools Netball Tournament will be back this year. It will take place at St Lawrence College on the morning of Saturday 20th May, so please add the date to your diaries. Further details will follow nearer the time.

Y1-6 MULTI-FIT

This fun event is designed for children who do not usually get the opportunity to represent their school at sport. It will take place at Ramsgate Leisure Centre on Friday 17th March, 1-3.30pm and all schools are invited to bring along 2 pupils from each year group (12 maximum). Infant only schools may bring 4 per year group (8 maximum). During the course of the afternoon the participants will face a series of fitness and skills based activities, modified according to their age. We hope as many schools as possible will take part, but due to the size of the venue there is a restriction on numbers so please get your entries in as early as possible. An entry form is attached which should be returned to me, garybcrees@gmail.com , no later than midnight on Monday 6th March 2023. Successful entries will then be confirmed along with details of the various activities.

This event is all about personal achievement and the School Games Values of Determination, Honesty, Passion, Respect, Self-Belief and Team Work. All participants will receive a medal. Teachers will also be asked at the end to nominate one child from their team who has exemplified the above Values to receive an extra medal.

Y1/2, Y3/4 and Y5/6 MINI SQUASH TOURNAMENTS

Attached are the entry forms for all 3 Mini-Squash tournaments which are due to take place at Thanet Squash Club in Broadstairs. The Y1/2 event is at 4pm on Wednesday 22nd March, followed the next day by the Y3/4 competition in the morning and the Y5/6 tournament in the afternoon of Thursday 23rd March. There is a limit of 8 places for each event and entries should be sent to Stephanie Selsby (NOT ME!), sgo@ursuline.kent.sch.uk , no earlier than 7.30am Thursday 23rd February. Entries close at midnight on Monday 6th March 2023.

CROSS COUNTRY REMINDER

A final reminder that entries for the Y3-6 Cross Country event at Quex Park on Saturday 4th March should be sent to the organiser, Steve King - steve@eastkentcoaching.com no later than Friday 24th February 2023, with payment either by cheque or BACS to arrive by Monday 27th February 2023.  Please do not send entry forms or payment to me!
Schools that fail to meet the entry and payment deadlines will not be able to take part.

Y5/6 'LET HER PLAY' GIRLS' FOOTBALL FESTIVAL

Our SGO, Stephanie Selsby, sent out the following information yesterday, but I have reproduced it here in case you missed it, as well as attaching the entry details.

Dear all,

On Wednesday 8th March 2023 (also International Womens Day), the Biggest EVER GIRLS Football Session is back, and this is your official invite to be a part of it! Whether you are already delivering girls' football in your school or want to take that first step to give girls' equal access, this is one not to be missed.

Please see the event specification attached for a Girls Football Festival at Ramsgate FC on Wednesday 8th March 2023. We held this event for the first time last March and it was a real success. I can appreciate that it is a quick turnaround on planning as the 8th March is only 2 weeks away. For that reason, the timings will not be adapted to suit entry numbers and will remain 1-3pm so you will be able to send out letters as soon as I have confirmed your entry.

If you are unable to make the festival but would really like to be involved in the #LetGirlsPlay movement, I have  added some resources to support your delivery at school on this date. Please register below and see the attached.
