Thanet Passport Update - 13

Dear Colleagues

KWIK CRICKET PLACES

Although the deadlines have now passed, I have one place available in both the Y5/6 Girls and the Y5/6 Mixed Kwik Cricket competitions, on 12th and 19th May respectively. If you still want a place please let me know, garybcrees@gmail.com , no later than Friday 5th May. First come, first served.

Y5/6 ORIENTEERING - CHANGE OF DATE

The Y5/6 Orienteering event, as notified in Update 12, has now been moved from 16th May to 17th May, because the date clashes with the Kent and Medway County PE Conference. All other information remains the same and teams can be accompanied by any member of staff. Places are still available at both the Y3/4 and Y5/6 events and they do not require any previous experience from the participants All entries should still be sent to our SGO, Stephanie Selsby (NOT ME!), sgo@ursuline.kent.sch.uk .

Y4/5 FOOTBALL FESTIVAL

Attached is the entry form for the Y4/5 Football Festival, on Tuesday 23rd May, 4-5.30pm. This is an opportunity for you to see what 'talent' you have for next season and we will also ask you to nominate the most sporting school you have played against this season. The school with the most votes will receive the Palmer Fair Play Shield. Please note that this event will be held at The Baypoint Club near Pegwell, not Upton as shown on the Passport calendar.
Entries should be sent to me, garybcrees@gmail.com. One entry per school. Closing date for entries is Friday 12th May 2023. Parents are allowed at this event.

Y3-6 TENNIS MASTERCLASS

Also attached is the entry form for the Tennis Masterclass, which will be held at Margate Tennis Club on Thursday 25th May, 4.00-5.30pm. This taster event is designed to help develop players' skills before they take part in the mini-tennis tournaments in Term 6 and is not suitable for those who already play at a good level for their age. Schools can bring a Y3/4 team, or a Y5/6 team or a mixture of both. There is space for a maximum of 10 teams and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Entries should be sent to Stephanie (NOT ME!), sgo@ursuline.kent.sch.uk , no earlier than 7.30am on Friday 5th May 2023. Parent spectators are allowed at this event.

ALL STARS & DYNAMOS CRICKET

Staying on the theme of Cricket, attached are 2 flyers about the All Stars and Dynamos Cricket courses, which may be of interest to any budding young cricketers you have in your schools. These ECB nationally recognised courses are run by Broadstairs Cricket Club on Saturday mornings, 9.15-10.15am, starting 20th May for 8 weeks.

For those who are unsure Broadstairs CC are also holding 2 free taster sessions on 6th and 13th May, 9.15-10.15am.

The All Stars programme is for 5-8 year olds and the Dynamos is for 8-11 year olds. Both are softball courses aimed at getting children playing the game and, although there is a cost involved, every child is given their own equipment to keep. Further details, including how to sign up, can be found at allstarscricket.co.uk or dynamoscricket.co.uk.

For those wishing to progress there is the opportunity to move on up to the U11 hard-ball team, which is run by Callum Noble from Upton. Broadstairs are also looking for more willing volunteers to help out with these programmes, so if you or anyone you know is interested please contact broadstairscricketclub@gmail.com .

QUICKSTICKS HOCKEY

And finally, I am delighted to announce that, thanks to St Lawrence College, we are able to reinstate the two Quicksticks Hockey events that had to be cancelled earlier in the year. Further details will be sent out nearer the time, but the dates for your diaries are:

Monday 3rd July, 4pm - Y3/4 Quicksticks Hockey tournament
