Thanet Passport Update - 17

Dear Colleagues

Welcome to the final Passport Update of the school year.

DRAFT PASSPORT CALENDAR 2023/24

Attached is the draft Passport Calendar, both by Date and Overview, for the next academic year. Once again we have included the dates of all our Networking Meetings for PE Staff in the hope that, with more notice, more of you will be able to attend. Pleasingly there are some new events this year, including Archery and 10-pin Bowling. As you will notice from the Overview version, we have also highlighted certain events that we recommend all new PE Coordinators should enter, if nothing else, as a good way of getting a feel for what Passport has to offer. Finally, you will notice that the week beginning July 8th is highlighted with a plethora of events to celebrate the Summer Olympics 2024. More about this exciting initiative to follow from our SGO, Stephanie Selsby.

However, please note that the Calendar is still a work in progress and although the vast majority of the dates and venues are correct, there are always a few last minute changes and additions. The idea of issuing the draft to you now is so that you can begin to plan your after school clubs to match those events you wish to enter, as well as ensuring that there are no clashes with major school events such as trips out, concerts or sports days. The final draft will be sent out with my first Update in September, with the usual A3 size laminated hard copies delivered to your schools a few weeks later.

DISTRICT FOOTBALL SQUADS

Thank you to everyone who nominated players for both our Main and our Girls District Football teams. The standard was really high and the selectors had a difficult job narrowing down the numbers, particularly for the Main Squad, for which we had 58 nominations. If you are interested, the names of those who made the final squads can be found on the TPSFA website,  www.thanetdistrictschoolsfa.org.uk .

PASSPORT COMMITTEE CHANGES

Sadly the Passport Committee is saying goodbye to one of its longest serving members, namely Lisa Sparkes from Garlinge Primary School. Lisa joined me on the Steering Committee when Thanet Passport was founded some 13 years ago and has shown unwavering support throughout her time with us. On a personal note I would like to thank 'Sporty' Lisa for all she has done and she will be much missed. That now of course leaves us with a vacancy. If you would be interested in joining the Committee then please contact me directly for further details as to what is involved. Please note that all nominations must ultimately be confirmed by the Head of School.

Talking of Committee changes, it is with sadness that I too will be standing down as Administrator of Thanet Passport, but happily not until the end of 2023/24. During the next year I hope to be able to mentor my replacement so that the changeover in 2024/25 is seamless. Therefore the Passport Committee are seeking a suitable replacement to be appointed as soon as possible after the Summer break. The job is reasonably well remunerated and would suit either someone who is semi-retired (like myself); or maybe someone who is looking to return to a part time job in education; or simply someone who has the capacity to take on the extra work involved in running Thanet Passport. If you, or anyone you know, is interested then please contact me, garybcrees@gmail.com , for further details and an Information Pack.
