Thanet Passport Update - 14

Dear Colleagues

Welcome to the final Update of Term 5, with plenty of exciting events still to sign up for!

GIRLS KWIK CRICKET - TEAM NEEDED

The Girls Kwik Cricket had to be postponed last Friday due to the rain, and sadly one of the schools that entered is unable to make the rearranged date of Friday 9th June, 1-4.40pm. If anyone else would like the space, or would like to put in a B team if already entered, then please let me know as soon as possible. All you need are 8 girls from Years 5 and 6 who would enjoy playing some cricket on a Friday afternoon in school time.

GIRLS DISTRICT FOOTBALL TEAM - COACH NEEDED

The Thanet Primary Schools FA is looking for a Teacher or Sports Coach who would be interested in running our District Girls team next season. This is a paid role and involves training the team and organising and attending matches on Saturday mornings from September through to March. If you, or anyone know, might be interested then please email me, garybcrees@gmail.com , as soon as possible. I will then be able to give further details regarding remuneration and what the role entails. Please note that the role is unsuitable for anyone who is already running a Girls team outside of a school context.

District trials for boys and girls will take place in mid-June and information regarding these will be sent out to eligible schools very shortly.

Y1/2 FOOTBALL FESTIVAL

This friendly, fun event is due to take place at Margate FC on Tuesday 13th June, 3.45-5.15pm and there is no limit on the number of schools that may enter, but only one team per school. Further details are attached and entries should be sent to me, garybcrees@gmail.com. The closing date for entries is midnight on Friday 26th May 2023.

Y1/2 RAPID FIRE COMPETITION

The Rapid Fire Cricket competition will be held at St George's Primary School on Wednesday 21st June, 1.00-2.45pm. A maximum of 6 schools can enter and an entry form and a copy of the rules are attached.

Entries will NOT be accepted until 7.30am on THURSDAY 18th MAY 2023, after which time places will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis. Entries should be sent to me, garybcrees@gmail.com , with the closing date for entries being midnight on Friday 26th May 2023.

Y3/4 & Y5/6 MINI-TENNIS

Also attached are the entry forms for both the Y3/4 and Y5/6 Mini-Tennis tournaments which are due to take place at Broadstairs Tennis Club (NOT Margate Tennis Club as on the Passport Calendar) on Friday 16th June and Friday 23rd June respectively. There is a limit of 8 teams for each event and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis from 7.30am on Thursday 18th May 2023. Entries should be sent to Stephanie Selsby (NOT ME!), sgo@ursuline.kent.sch.uk .

Y1-6 CROSS COUNTRY EVENTS AT UPTON

Please see the following information from Dave Walker at Upton regarding the Y3-6 'Waterloo Trophy' Cross Country event on Saturday 17th June 2023 and the Y1-6 Cross Country event on Saturday 24th June 2023. Please make sure your entries go to Dave (NOT ME!), Dave.Walker@uptonjunior.com .

Dear Colleagues

I'd like to invite you all to two annual cross-country related events we run here at Upton every year:

Firstly the Waterloo Team Relay on Saturday 17th June:

Originally invented at the request of the mayor, this event commemorates the battle of Waterloo. A team of three runners (same sex) each run approx 800m around the course before passing their baton to the  next runner. There are 4 races and they are in the mixed year groups below so that smaller schools also have the chance to get teams together :

Year 3/4 Boys (10.00AM)

Year 3/4 Girls (10.30AM)

Year 5/6 Boys (11.00AM)

Year 5/6 Girls (11.30AM)

Schools can, and often do, enter multiple teams to make it worth your while. There is a £2 entry fee per child and that pays for a nice medal for each child, regardless of where their team finishes. The relay nature of the event makes it unique, with runners being part of a team rather than simply competing as individuals. This also means that it’s a much more open competition with many differing schools making the podium or top ten

Secondly the Upton Cross-Country on Saturday 24th June

Last year we had over 600 runners taking part. It's a similar event to the Quex runs except that all races are 1km -I find the extra 500m often puts the older ones off. There are still 8 main races (y3 boys, yr 3 girls, yr 4 boys etc) and we have a 'fun' Y2 and under race at the start which is very popular also. Entry is only £2 per child and again this pays for their medal.

For each event I need to know the number of runners you are bringing by 26th May (day before the holiday) so I can order the medals. Once I have that number, you are committed to paying for that number of entries and we simply invoice your school.

I attach two letter templates you can adapt for each event to save you time

Kindest regards

Dave

THANET NETBALL LEAGUE TOURNAMENT

And finally, Linda Bushell has asked me to double check that all schools that have entered the Thanet Netball League Tournament this coming Saturday 20th May have received their information and know that they are taking part. If in doubt, please contact Linda lb22thanetnetball@btinternet.com .
